It's difficult to believe that this was 12 years ago. Wow. My how time flies. Furthur has apparently gone on hiatus after their Mexican jaunt, while
...
Ratdog and P&F will be the 2014 bands in rotation. Well, in 2002, I hardly could have expected that there would be more music, much less 12 years.
I hadn't seen much music since '95, having been crushed by losing Jerry. After hopping on the P&F bus in '01, I was ready for this family reunion. The security and cops were downright terrifying. They make TSA seem like a bunch of amateurs. This was I say, I say, terrifying police presence. Once stub was torn, however . . .
I ended up in the 20th row or something for this night. It felt like the Maxell add from the early 80s with my hair blowing back from the amazing sound. I was pulled inside out by Lazy Lightning (my one and only) and the Born Cross-Eyed surprise. The drums were pounding! While I love Molo, I had an Aha! moment of muscle memory hearing Mickey and Billy pound behind the beat: Oh yeah, these mofos shred cabbage like nobody's bidness.
Everyone seemed to be turned up to 10, the audience was amped, and there was a palpable excitement in the air. The second night couldn't hold a candle to this. For anyone's ears, the FM mix is the way to go. Aurally, it has it all. Da bomb.
I miss my family.
Peace.
